Elizabeth A. McKennon

Liz has extensive experience in tax-exempt and taxable financing. Since 1980, she has provided advice and assistance in structuring, documenting, negotiating, and implementing more than $10 billion in debt issuances on behalf of governmental units, health and educational institutions, long-term care/elder housing providers and other nonprofit entities. In addition, Liz has substantial experience in a broad spectrum of other complex financings, synthetic leases and other off-balance sheet financings, commercial paper programs, tax increment and special assessment bond issues, transportation facilities financings and solid waste disposal, pollution control and port facilities financings. Liz has participated in a number of project financings and has substantial experience with loan originations in securitization programs. Liz has served as counsel to a variety of organizations, including governmental entities, public and private companies, nonprofit institutions, investment banking firms, commercial lending institutions, institutional investors, and credit enhancers. Liz is a member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the Government Finance Officers Association, and the Maryland Municipal Bond Club. She was a partner of Piper & Marbury for 15 years before the founding of McKennon Shelton & Henn LLP. At Piper & Marbury, she served as the head of the Associates Committee, a member of the Policy and Management Committee, and the Chairman of the Public Finance practice group. Liz is a member of the Maryland bar.
